My Skincare Routine... Tips, Tricks, & Best Practices

Now believe it or not I was 29 in these photos. In the one on the left I am wearing no makeup and in the one on the right I am wearing make up. The question that I get asked the most, after finding out my age, is what I use on my skin.   Well, I’d like to answer that question as well as provide my best tips for caring for your skin!

***In the spirit of full disclosure, I’d like you to know that I am a representative for the company that makes the products that I use.   However, this has not swayed my opinion of these products, in fact, it is the reason I became a representative for this company ***

Tips, Tricks, & Best Practices

My key to great skin has always been: moisturize and hydrate, nourish, and protect.

By moisturize, I mean PUT ON LOTION!!! I cannot stress enough how important it is to wear some sort of lotion or cream made specifically for the face and eyes!  Now onto hydration…

In order to hydrate, you must DRINK WATER! Drinking water is important not only for internal organ function and also for healthy skin. If your body isn’t getting sufficiently hydrated,  it’s going to take moisture away from your skin and hair first, which brings me to my next point.

Nourishing your body also nourishes your skin. Did you know that having a healthy diet contributes to skin and hair health? There are many vitamins and nutrients in fruits and vegetables that contribute to the production of healthy skin. Making sure you get your fruits and veggies in, taking a multivitamin, as well as a hair, skin, and nail supplement may improve the look and feel of your skin.

Next is protect… your skin needs to be protected from outside elements such as the sun, pollution, and secondhand smoke. You can control what you do but you can’t always control your environment. For sun protection, I recommend using sunscreen DAILY. The product with the sunscreen should be the last product applied to the face (after the moisturizer or as a part of your liquid foundation if you wear makeup).  Sunscreen is for people with all skin tones and types... don’t be fooled by the misconception that darker complexions require little or no sunscreen. We all need it!  As far as the environmental elements such as pollution and secondhand smoke… well,  if you are taking the other precautions mentioned, your body should be equipped to repair the damage, especially if it’s being helped with quality skincare products, nutritional supplements, and a consistent routine.

Products & Routine

Ok, so, to the fun stuff :) My skin is classic combination skin, and has been pretty much my whole life (I did go through a bout with severe acne). Unchecked my forehead, nose, and chin are very oily and my cheeks and eyes are very dry.  To take care of this, I follow a four-step routine and all of my products fit into this routine… are you ready??? 1. Cleanse 2. Tone 3. Treat 4. Moisturize So let's go over the products I use and how I use them.

cleanse:

My everyday cleanser is the Artistry Hydra-V Foaming Cleanser…. I love it! I have combination skin and this cleanser helps remove dirt, oil, and makeup. I use it with a facial cleansing brush every day, both day and night.

Once a week I use the Artistry Essentials Polishing Scrub (instead of the Hydra-V Foaming Cleanser) to exfoliate my skin.

tone:

To tone my skin I use the Artistry Hydra-V Fresh Toner to condition, soften, and prep my skin for the next step. I use this day and night as well.

Treat:

To treat my skin twice a day, I use the Artistry Hydra-V Vital Skin Serum Concentrate that helps me maintain the soft supple texture that has people underestimating my age ;-)

So for whatever reason I still get the occasional pimple (usually right before a visit from Auntie Flo or after an encounter with fast food) so to take care of that I use Artistry Essentials Anti-Blemish. A dab on the zit usually does the trick.

moisturize:

For my eyes (yes your eyes need a moisturizer specifically for eyes, even if you don’t have any problems with dark circles, puffiness, or fine lines and wrinkles) I use the Artistry Hydra-V Refreshing Eye Gel Cream. This refreshes and hydrates my under eye area as well as helps with dark circles and puffiness.

For my face I use the Artistry Hydra-V Nourishing Gel Cream. This is both light and moisturizing. It’s not oily and keeps my skin smoothed and feeling well balanced.

In addition to moisturizing I use a separate sunscreen: the Artistry Ideal Radiance UV Protect SPF 50+. I use this in the daytime (no matter the forecast) to help protect my skin from the sun and the formation of sunspots and freckles. This sunscreen is not oily or greasy and also helps moisturize the skin as well as prevent and correct any sun damage.

Why Artistry?

I have used Artistry skincare products since I was a teenager (and maybe before then). Artistry products are backed by science, harness the power of mother nature, and are high-quality products. Artistry is one of the top 5 brands of premium skincare in the world and is a brand that I have trusted with my skin for years.

Why Hydra-V?

I use Hydra-V because, thanks to the tips I mentioned above, I don’t have any serious skin concerns, I just want to maintain soft, supple, youthful-looking skin.  The hydration and nourishment provided by the Hydra-V line help prevent skin dehydration, maintain the moisture balance, as well as provide nutrients that replenish the skin.
