Common Kitchen Items That Can (and Should) Be Used in Your Beauty Regimen

You may be surprised by how many items you have in your kitchen that can be used in your beauty routine. In fact, because food is held to higher standards than beauty products, using kitchen items may actually be better for you (especially if you have sensitive skin). If you are purchasing high (or even medium) quality food that is good for you, it's not just good for your insides, it's also good for your outsides! 

Kitchen Items & Their Beauty Uses

Olive Oil: can be used to make a hydrating face mask; oil cleansing the face and hair; hot oil treatment for the hair; in place of lotion after a shower; added to salt, sugar, coffee, and/or ground nuts in a face/body scrub

Coconut Oil: removes makeup; oil cleansing for the face and hair; leave in conditioner for the hair; hot oil treatment for the hair; in place of lotion after a shower; added to salt, sugar, coffee and/or ground nuts in a face/body scrub

Avocado Oil: can be used to make a hydrating face mask; oil cleansing the face and hair; hot oil treatment for the hair; in place of lotion after a shower; added to salt, sugar, coffee, and/or ground nuts in a face/body scrub

Almonds: can be ground and used in a face/body scrub or mask for brightening the skin

Avocados: can be mashed and used in a hydrating mask for the face, body, & hair

Lemons: can be used as a  brightening/lightening agent in a mask for the skin and hair; also clarifies and removes dead skin so use sparingly if using with scrubbing ingredients (i.e. salt, sugar, ground nuts)

Coffee grounds: can be used in face and body masks and scrubs as a scrubbing ingredient and circulation enhancer

Sugar/Salt: can be used as the scrubbing agent in masks and scrubs for the skin

Honey: can be used as a facial cleanser (does not remove makeup); to control frizzy hair as a leave-in or mask; in a face mask to balance oil 

Eggs: can be used in a mask as a protein treatment for the hair and face

Yogurt: can be used in a mask as a protein and hydrating treatment for the hair and face

Mayonnaise: can be used as a moisturizing and detangling agent in a mask for the hair 

Chocolate: can be used in powder or melted (and cooled) bar form in face masks for hydration and antioxidants

Apple Cider Vinegar: can be used as a moisturizing agent in hair rinse after shampooing and before conditioning for moisturizing; scalp rinse for scalp irritation 

Oats: can be used in face masks as scrubbing agent
